Phone to Apps:
The new BMW car audio system is compatible with the iPhone’s CarPlay functionality. This upgrade gives you direct access to a variety of your iPhone’s navigation, messaging, and music applications as well as other driver-focused apps such as parking, EV charging, or quick food ordering.
Wireless Capability:
BimmerTech’s CarPlay for BMWs and MINIs allows you to connect your iPhone via Bluetooth. You only have to wirelessly pair your iPhone with the MMI Prime once and it will automatically recognize your device each time you get in the car. With BMW CarPlay, you can answer calls just like when using a hands-free Bluetooth connection. If you’d rather connect your iPhone with the use of cable, you are also free to do so. CarPlay MMI Prime supports both wired and wireless phone connections. The BimmerTech CarPlay MMI Prime upgrade is compatible with devices running iOS up to version 16.
USB Multimedia & Charging Port:
BimmerTech’s BMW CarPlay upgrade comes with a USB port. It lets you charge your iPhone on longer drives, or you can use it for playing videos and music on your iDrive Screen from a USB thumb drive. The MMI’s USB port can also be used in the future for software updates. So, if you won’t be using it for charging or multimedia playback – make sure to place it in an accessible location.
Full Screen Mode With BMW CarPlay:
The MMI Prime enables you to use all of your CarPlay-compatible iPhone apps on the original BMW display in full-screen. The retrofit’s 1280×480 resolution for big displays and 800×480 resolution for small displays looked fantastic on all screen sizes. It’s important to know that if you have a MINI with a rounded screen, CarPlay will obscure a small section in each corner when using full-screen mode.
Screen Mirroring:
The Full-Screen mode also includes a Screen Mirroring option, which lets you cast the screen of your mobile device onto the BMW’s or MINI’s display. You can also stream audio through the car speakers with this function! This is especially useful if you want to watch a video from YouTube without having to use your phone data.
Android users will have to physically connect their phone to the car in order to use content mirroring, while iPhone users can do so wirelessly. Additionally, Screen Mirroring may be unavailable for some apps due to copyright-holder DRM restrictions. BimmerTech is not responsible for any compatibility issues that may arise with third-party apps and CarPlay MMI Prime.
iDrive Allows for Easy Control:
You may use your factory microphone for Siri voice commands or the iDrive controller to access the BMW CarPlay apps. In some cars, you have the option of using buttons on the steering wheel to control them, although this is dependent on your head unit version. To find out if your car supports it, decode your VIN.
Although CarPlay MMI Prime doesn’t work with touch function, it’s still safe and easy to control the device with steering wheel buttons, iDrive controller and Siri/Google Assistant.
Wireless Android Auto Support:
The kit contains a Multimedia Interface, a module that also adds Android Auto to your BMW or MINI. So if you have family members or friends with Android smartphones, connecting their devices will be a breeze too! To operate BMW Android Auto wirelessly, your smartphone must support wireless Android Auto. You can still connect using USB if yours doesn’t.
Use With Front & Rear View Cameras:
The MMI module makes it easy and affordable to add front and reversing cameras to your purchase. The front view camera can be activated by holding the Option button for 2 seconds. To exit out of camera mode, press Back. Alternatively, it can also be set up to appear automatically for up to 20 seconds when transitioning from Reverse to Drive.
High-quality Audio With EQ:
The audio output circuit in our BMW CarPlay upgrade has been carefully selected to give you the best sound quality possible from the iDrive AUX input. If your car doesn’t have an AUX input, a professional can code it for you.
The BimmerTech CarPlay MMI Prime also contains an 8-band equalizer that permits you to alter the sound according to your preferences. You can set it up simply in the MMI menu whether you would prefer more bass or less treble, for example. If your BMW iDrive system or MINI Connected doesn’t have a multi-band Equalizer, this feature is especially great.
